Michio Kaku

Michio Kaku is one of the world’s foremost theoretical physicists and a tireless public advocate for science and the future. His lifelong quest is to complete Einstein’s dream of a unified theory, an equation to explain everything from black holes to time travel.

Co-founder of the string field theory, Michio Kaku has spent his career exploring the most ambitious questions in physics: What is the nature of reality? Can we unify all the forces of the universe under one equation? How close are we to bending space, time, and the limits of the human mind?

Born in San Jose to Japanese-American parents, Kaku built his first particle accelerator in his parents’ garage while still in high school, using scrap metal and 22 miles of wire. He was accepted to Harvard and later completed his PhD at the University of California, Berkeley. Today, he holds the Henry Semat Chair in Theoretical Physics at the City College of New York, where he has taught for over four decades.

Kaku’s scientific work builds on the legacy of Einstein. He aims to complete the Theory of Everything — a single framework that can reconcile general relativity with quantum mechanics. But Michio Kaku is best known not for cloistered research but for opening science to the world. He has written five New York Times bestselling books, including The Future of the Mind, The Future of Humanity, and Physics of the Impossible, which explore everything from AI and brain-computer interfaces to space colonisation and teleportation. His most recent book, Quantum Supremacy (2023), examines how quantum computing could revolutionise medicine, finance, and national security and possibly become as transformative as electricity itself.

A veteran of science communication, Michio Kaku frequently appears on CNN, BBC, and CBS, and has served as a consultant for science fiction films and television. His engaging style, equal parts theoretical precision and cultural accessibility has earned him comparisons to Carl Sagan and Bill Nye, though his focus remains squarely on the bleeding edge of physics. From sustainability to automation, Michio Kaku connects the dots between physics and the future of industries, making him a valuable voice for decision-makers shaping tomorrow’s economy.
