Jonathan Chen is a physician, researcher, and expert in biomedical informatics and artificial intelligence. He is Associate Professor of Medicine (Computational Medicine) and Biomedical Data Science at Stanford University School of Medicine, Director for Medical Education in Artificial Intelligence at the Stanford Center for Biomedical Informatics Research, and an AI Faculty Champion for Stanford Medicine’s AI in Medical Education initiative. He also continues to practice medicine as a hospitalist at Stanford Medical Center.
Chen leads a research group focused on combining human and artificial intelligence to harness the collective knowledge embedded in clinical data and improve patient care. His work explores how machine learning and data analytics can uncover insights from electronic medical records and translate them into clinical decision support for physicians, patients, and healthcare systems.
Before pursuing medical training, Chen co-founded a company that translated his graduate research in computer science into an expert system for organic chemistry, with applications spanning drug discovery and education. His research has been published extensively in leading clinical and informatics journals and has received recognition from organisations including the National Institutes of Health, the National Library of Medicine, and the American Medical Informatics Association.
In addition to his scientific achievements, Chen is an award-winning magician, bringing his performance skills and a touch of entertainment to his presentations alongside his expertise in medicine, technology, and AI.
