Israa Nasir is on a mission to rewrite the way we think about mental health and measure our own worth. A psychotherapist, author, and sought-after speaker, she challenges the relentless pressure to “do more to be more” and invites audiences to reclaim their time, energy, and joy.
Born in Pakistan, raised between Saudi Arabia and Canada, and now based in New York, Nasir’s life has been a series of cultural crossings and reinventions. Her global upbringing gives her a rare ability to see the threads that connect people across vastly different experiences, and to understand the unique mental health challenges of navigating transitions, identity, and belonging.
For over a decade, Israa Nasir has practiced as a licensed therapist in Canada and the United States. She is the founder of WellGuide, a digital mental health platform with a vibrant community on Instagram, where she distills complex psychological insights into engaging, relatable conversations. Her work has been featured by Business Insider, NBC News, Teen Vogue, and Axios, and she serves on Vox Media’s PS Wellness Council.
Her acclaimed book, Toxic Productivity, draws from both research and her own lived experience of burnout to expose the hidden emotional drivers — shame, perfectionism, social comparison — that keep us chasing achievement at the cost of our well-being. With equal parts candor and compassion, Israa Nasir offers a framework for “healthy productivity” that starts not with time-management hacks, but with emotional awareness, values alignment, and the radical act of rest.
Nasir believes mental health is not simply the absence of illness, but the ongoing process of living an examined, intentional life. One where we can welcome even the shadowy parts of ourselves. Her work is a reminder that we are always in a state of becoming, and that joy, connection, and meaning are not luxuries for the end of our to-do list, but the point of the list itself.
