Tali Sharot's Biography

Tali Sharot makes cognitive neuroscience accessible. A renowned author and sought-after speaker, Sharot helps audiences understand human decision-making.

Sharot is an acclaimed academic. She is Professor of Cognitive Neuroscience in the department of Experimental Psychology and The Max Planck UCL Centre for Computational Psychiatry at University College London. Sharot is also on the faculty of the Department of Brain and Cognitive Sciences at MIT. And she still finds time to lead the Affective Brain Lab where she is founder and director.

With a BA in Economics and Psychology from Tel Aviv University and a PhD from New York University, Sharot is well-qualified to talk on the ever popular subject of behavioural economics. Her research combines psychology, behavioural economics and neuroscience to reveal the forces that shape our decisions and beliefs. Sharot's work has not only reshaped our understanding of human behaviour but paved the way for transformative applications in fields ranging from economics to public policy.

Tali Sharot holds multiple coveted fellowships in recognition of her work. She is a Wellcome Trust Senior Research Fellow, with past fellowships that include the WellcomeTrust Career Development Fellowship, Fellow of the Forum of European Philosophy and British Academy Postdoctoral Fellowship. Sharot is also the Head Section Editor for Science Advances and President of the Society of Neuroeconmics.

Her award winning books – The Optimism Bias (2011) and The Influential Mind (2017) – have been praised by outlets including the New York Times, Times, Forbes and more. Her latest book, Look Again, is co-authored with Cass Sunstein and received similarly high acclaim. In addition to her academic roles, Sharot has served as a consultant for global companies and government projects, and sits on the board of several companies.
