Lynda Gratton's Biography

Relationships between employers and individuals are ever-changing. Gone are the days of corporate loyalty and the 9-5. Is the established working week, designed with factories in mind, really fit for the creative economy? Lynda Gratton answers these big questions as she helps companies adjust to the modern workforce.

Gratton’s work is a mix of management practice and human resources strategy. It’s rooted in practical corporate application rather than academic theory. She seeks to unravel new complexities through her teaching, advising and regular column in MIT Sloan.

Leading London Business School's Management Practice faculty, Gratton started its highly-regarded HR Strategy in Transforming Companies programme. The course has been a cornerstone of organisational design for over 20 years. She also teaches a popular MBA course on the future of work where she explores the evolving professional landscape.

Beyond academia, Gratton is the founder of HSM Advisory. The consultancy firm runs a leading future of work initiative, convening executives from over 100 companies to discuss workplace design.

Gratton has also published a prolific body of work spanning 10 books and regular articles, for both academic and business audiences. From the intersection of business strategy and HR in Living Strategy to the societal impact of corporations in The Key, Gratton examines the pressing issues shaping the future of work.

As one of the world’s most renowned management thinkers, she has received many accolades and awards. These include the prestigious Tata Prize in India and recognition as a Fellow of NAHR.

Lynda Gratton is also a Fellow of the World Economic Forum and previously served on former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe’s Council for designing the 100-year-life society.
