Andrea Maier's Biography

Whether it's the theoretical imaginings of immortality or just practical ways to live longer, healthy longevity is increasingly capturing the public's attention. Andrea Maier has long been one of the leading thinkers in this field. A renowned academic, she is an expert adviser to the UN, WHO and a range of other public and private organisations.

Maier graduated with a degree in Medicine from the University of Lübeck in 2003. She quickly recognised the pressing need to confront the challenges of an aging population. Motivated to treat age-related diseases, Maier became a Specialist in Internal Medicine-Geriatrics, in 2013 assuming the position of Full Professor of Gerontology at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam.

During her tenure as the Head of Geriatrics at the Vrije Universiteit Medical Center, Andrea Maier developed her reputation as a pioneer in the field. She spearheaded groundbreaking studies aimed at unlocking the secrets behind aging and age-related diseases.

Maier's work took her to Australia. There, she took on the role of Divisional Director of Medicine and Community Care at the Royal Melbourne Hospital in Australia. Concurrently, she held the position of Professor of Medicine and Aged Care at the University of Melbourne, further solidifying her status as a global authority on healthy aging research.

Maier also found time to continue her prolific research output. This encompasses over 430 peer-reviewed articles and underscores her commitment to bringing diagnostics and interventions into clinical practice. Her work heralded in a new understanding of aging and longevity.

In 2021 she moved to Singapore as Oon Chiew Seng Professor in Medicine at the National University of Singapore and co-founded Chi Longevity in 2022, the first evidence-based healthy longevity medicine clinic in Asia. In 2023 she joined NU as Chief Medical Officer and co-founded the NUS Academy for Healthy Longevity to establish education structures within the growing field of healthy longevity medicine.

A sought-after expert, Andrea Maier is a frequent media commentator on the latest advances in her field. Recognised as a Fellow of the Atria Academy of Science and Medicine, and Academy for Health and Lifespan Research, she continues to advance the frontiers of gerontology, Maier seeks to inspire and shape the future of healthy aging worldwide.
