Winston Ma, CFA & Esq., is an investor, attorney, author, and adjunct professor specialising in the global AI and digital economy. He is a Partner at Dragon Global, an AI-focused family office and founding member of Dragon.AI. He also serves on the advisory board of Capgemini, the global IT consulting firm headquartered in Paris, and is Chairman and Co-Founder of ALPHA Technologies, a startup at the forefront of advanced AI conversational systems.
Previously, Ma spent a decade as Managing Director and Head of the North America Office at China Investment Corporation (CIC), China’s sovereign wealth fund. Before his tenure at CIC, he held senior roles in investment banking, including Deputy Head of Equity Capital Markets at Barclays Capital and Vice President at J.P. Morgan, as well as practicing corporate law at Davis Polk & Wardwell LLP. He is among a select group of native Chinese professionals with experience in both investment and capital markets law across the U.S. and China.
A nationally certified software programmer since 1994, Winston Ma has authored over ten books on sovereign wealth funds, China, and the global digital economy, including The Hunt for Unicorns: How Sovereign Funds are Reshaping Investment in the Digital Economy and most recently Blockchain and Web3 (among 2024 “six must-read blockchain books” by TechTarget). His insights are regularly featured on CNBC and Bloomberg TV and quoted by major financial media including WSJ, Reuters, and Financial Times. He was selected as the 2013 Young Global Leader at the World Economic Forum (WEF), and in 2014, received the NYU Distinguished Alumni Award.
Ma earned his MBA from the University of Michigan Ross Business School (Beta Gamma Sigma) and his master of comparative jurisprudence from the New York University School of Law (Hauser Global Scholar). He earned a Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Law degrees from Fudan University in Shanghai, China. He is currently an adjunct professor at NYU School on SWF fund and tech investing topics.
