Wendy Suzuki

Wendy Suzuki is a neuroscientist, psychologist, and Dean of the College of Arts and Science at New York University. Her research explores how physical activity can transform brain health, revealing the powerful, life-changing effects of exercise on cognition, memory, and overall well-being.

Dr Wendy Suzuki is a Professor of Neural Science and Psychology at the Center for Neural Science at New York University and a leading authority on brain plasticity – the brain’s remarkable ability to change and adapt throughout life.

Internationally recognised for her pioneering research on the neural circuits underlying learning and long-term memory, Dr Suzuki runs Suzuki Lab. Through her research, she has demonstrated that regular physical activity can significantly reduce the risk of dementia, with studies showing that consistent walking alone may lower risk by as much as 30%. Exercise has also been shown to improve cognitive function in individuals already living with dementia. Building on these findings, Dr Suzuki’s current research seeks to identify the optimal type, intensity, and duration of exercise needed to maximise brain health and cognitive performance across the lifespan.

A sought-after neuroscience expert, Dr Suzuki has been featured in leading publications including The Wall Street Journal, Forbes, and The Washington Post. She is the internationally bestselling author of Healthy Brain, Happy Life: A Personal Program to Activate Your Brain and Do Everything Better and Good Anxiety: Harnessing the Power of the Most Misunderstood Emotion.

Dr Suzuki earned her bachelor’s degree in Physiology and Human Anatomy from the University of California, Berkeley, where she studied under pioneering neuroscientist Professor Marion C. Diamond. She received her Ph.D. in Neuroscience from the University of California, San Diego, followed by a postdoctoral fellowship at the National Institute of Mental Health.

Her groundbreaking contributions to neuroscience have earned numerous prestigious honors, including the Donald B. Lindsley Prize from the Society for Neuroscience and the Troland Research Award from the National Academy of Sciences.
