Toju Duke

Toju Duke is the Founder and CEO of Bedrock AI, a company dedicated to advancing responsible AI through research, product development, and infrastructure guided by ethical principles. With a mission to democratise AI, Bedrock AI focuses on building safe, trustworthy, and inclusive AI technologies through community-participatory approaches. Duke is also the founder of Diverse AI, a community interest organisation supporting underrepresented groups in building an inclusive AI future. She formerly led the UK chapter of Women in AI, a global nonprofit advocating for gender diversity in AI.

Duke spent a decade at Google, where she served as a Programme Manager on the Responsible AI team, leading initiatives across Google’s product and research divisions, with a focus on large-scale models and responsible AI processes. Prior to that, she was the EMEA Product Lead for Google Travel and contributed significantly to Google’s Travel and Shopping verticals.

A recognised voice in the AI ethics space, Duke is the author of Building Responsible AI Algorithms, which has been adopted by universities worldwide. Her second book, Responsible AI in Practice, co-authored with Prof. Paolo Giudici, is the first practical guide to AI risk assessment and management, offering actionable frameworks for machine learning practitioners.

Duke leads research on responsible AI practices for generative AI and collaborates with academic and industry experts globally. She serves on the Programme Committee for the AAAI/ACM Conference on AI, Ethics, and Society 2025, contributes to international AI policy discussions, and advises governments and organisations on responsible AI strategy and implementation.

A frequent contributor to global media, Duke has been featured on BBC, Sky News, Al Jazeera, CGTN America, El País, La Nación, La Vanguardia, and Sifted, among others. She also delivers executive advisory, corporate training, and workshops on responsible AI and business transformation.
