Teemu Arina

Known as one of the pioneers of biohacking, Teemu Arina examines how sleep, recovery, nutrition and attention shape performance, health and decision-making in an always-on world, and why sustainable progress begins with understanding the body.

Teemu Arina is a technology entrepreneur, author and one of the earliest thinkers to give structure and credibility to the biohacking movement. For over two decades, his work has asked how people can remain healthy and focused in systems that reward speed, availability and constant output.

Biohacking, as Arina defines it, is not about chasing extremes or novelty. It is the disciplined practice of measuring and improving the foundations of daily life. Sleep quality rather than hours in bed. Recovery rather than relentless effort. Nutrient density rather than dietary dogma. Focus rather than multitasking. His work translates advances in biology, wearable technology and data science into practical routines that help people understand their own limits and design work and life around them.

As co-author of the bestselling Biohacker’s Handbook series, Teemu Arina helped introduce a framework built around five pillars: sleep, exercise, nutrition, mind and work. The books demystify tools such as biomarker testing, light exposure, fasting and cognitive recovery, while stressing that long-term gains come from consistency, not intensity. This emphasis on repeatable habits over quick fixes has made his work influential well beyond early adopters of health technology.

Arina’s thinking is shaped largely by his own personal experience. After periods of severe burnout and chronic illness earlier in his career, he began to question prevailing ideas of productivity and leadership. That journey now underpins his wider work on the future of work and learning, where he argues that human energy, attention and health are becoming the true constraints in an automated economy. His research explores how algorithms, platforms and artificial intelligence are changing decision-making, while human value increasingly lies in judgement, creativity and interaction.

Teemu Arina curates the Hololife Summit, regarded as the world’s leading conference on biohacking. He is also the co-founder of the Hololife Center, an independent think tank focused on preventive health, optimal performance and wellbeing. His contributions have been recognised with the Leonardo Award under the patronage of the European Parliament and UNESCO.
