Robert Kiyosaki

Robert Kiyosaki built his reputation on a simple but uncomfortable truth: what most people believe about money is wrong. That insight has made him one of the most widely read and widely debated figures in personal finance today.

Robert Kiyosaki is the author of Rich Dad Poor Dad — the #1 personal finance book of all time — and one of the most influential voices in global financial education. For nearly three decades, he has challenged conventional thinking about money, wealth, and the institutions that manage both.

Born in Hilo, Hawaii to a Japanese-American family, Kiyosaki grew up shaped by two opposing philosophies. His father was highly educated but financially struggling. His best friend’s dad, by contrast, was a thriving entrepreneur and investor. That contrast became the foundation of a financial worldview that has since reached tens of millions of readers worldwide.

After serving as a Marine helicopter pilot in Vietnam, Robert Kiyosaki chose salesmanship and entrepreneurship over a conventional career. His early ventures were rough. His first business, a nylon-and-Velcro wallet brand, nearly drove him to bankruptcy. Even so, those hard lessons sharpened the real-world instincts he would eventually teach to the world.

The 1997 publication of Rich Dad Poor Dad made him a global phenomenon. Its core argument is simple but radical: schools train people to work for money, while the wealthy teach their children to make money work for them. That message struck a nerve across generations and continues to anchor financial literacy conversations today.

Kiyosaki is as vocal as ever. He co-founded The Rich Dad Company with his wife Kim, hosts the Rich Dad Radio Show podcast, and has authored 32 books to date.

His current investment stance is characteristically blunt. He views stocks, bonds, and 401(k)s as fragile institutional promises that collapse under geopolitical pressure. Instead, he advocates for gold, silver, and Bitcoin as assets that governments cannot print and politicians cannot promise away. In a world of rising debt and market volatility, he argues that real assets are the only reliable store of wealth.
