Richard Reeves is a public intellectual, best-selling author, and influential social commentator whose work centers on two vital questions: Where do inequalities persist in society today, and how can we most effectively address them?
Reeves was name one of America’s top 25 thinkers by Politico for his insightful analysis of class dynamics in contemporary America, explored in his book, Dream Hoarders. His most recent book, Of Boys and Men: Why the Modern Male is Struggling, Why it Matters, and What to Do About It, was lauded as a “landmark” by The New York Times, and recognised as a book of the year by President Obama, The New Yorker, and The Economist.
Reeves currently serves as a non-resident senior fellow at the Brookings Institution, President of the American Institute for Boys and Men, and Chair of the UK Institute for Boys and Men. He also sits on the Board of Jobs for the Future and advises a range of academic and corporate institutions. Previously, he was a senior fellow in Economic Studies at Brookings, where he led the Center on Children and Families and the Future of the Middle Class Initiative. His career spans national journalism, public policy, think tank leadership, and government service. He is the author of six books which have been translated into 15 languages. Reeve’s biography of John Stuart Mill, the 19th-century philosopher and political economist solidified Reeves’s commitment to equality of opportunity, echoing Mill’s vision of a society where all individuals have the chance to fully participate and prosper.
Reeves is a regular presence at global forums including the Aspen Ideas Festival, the Milken Institute Global Conference, TED, and The Economist Open Future Festival. His 2023 TED Talk on the challenges facing boys and men received a standing ovation, while his Big Think interview on the same topic garnered over 10 million views and won the 2024 Webby People’s Choice Award. He is a frequent contributor to major media outlets, with appearances on CNN, CBS, Fox News, MSNBC, NPR, PBS, the BBC, and various late-night television programs, as well as leading podcasts. His writing has been featured in The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, Politico, The Atlantic, National Review, and The Free Press. He also authors a regular Substack column, where he shares ongoing commentary and analysis on social and policy issues.
