Ray Chan

Ray Chan is the CEO and co-founder of 9GAG, the leading social entertainment platform for humor content with a global audience. He is also the CEO and founder of Memeland, the fastest-growing SocialFi ecosystem and Web3 venture studio, pioneering the convergence of culture, community, and decentralised technologies.

An alumnus of Y Combinator and 500 Startups, Chan is recognised for his track record in community-driven digital innovation. In 2008, he launched 9GAG during the Web2 era, helping to popularise memes as a universal internet language of humor and identity. In 2024, he spun off Memeland from 9GAG, transforming it into a next-generation platform that integrates NFTs, GameFi, and blockchain to reshape how culture and technology intersect online.

In 2025, Chan acquired a controlling stake in Howking Technology International Holdings Limited, rebranding it as MemeStrategy Inc., Asia’s first publicly listed virtual asset ecosystem venture. As Chairman and CEO, Chan leads the company’s strategic direction alongside key team members from 9GAG and Memeland. MemeStrategy focuses on three high-growth pillars: Artificial Intelligence (A), Blockchain (B), and Culture (C), aiming to bridge the gap between traditional finance and the new digital economy, while advancing innovations in decentralised technologies and IoT.

Earlier in his career, Chan held leadership roles at Singboard and aNobii, an online reading community that was later acquired by a consortium including HMV Group and major publishers in 2010.

Chan holds a law degree from The University of Hong Kong, where he captained the debate teams of both the University and Ricci Hall. Before launching 9GAG with four co-founders, he worked as a television anchor and product manager in the digital media space.
