Pedro Domingos

Pedro Domingos is a Professor Emeritus of Computer Science and Engineering at the University of Washington in Seattle. A leading figure in artificial intelligence, machine learning, and data science, his research covers a broad range of areas including scalable machine learning algorithms, viral marketing in social networks, the integration of logic and probability, and deep learning.

Domingos is the author of 2040 and The Master Algorithm, a widely acclaimed introduction to machine learning for general readers, recommended by Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates as essential reading in the field. He has authored or co-authored over 200 scholarly publications and is recognised for his significant contributions to AI research.

Domingos is the recipient of several of the most prestigious awards in AI and data science, including the SIGKDD Innovation Award and the IJCAI John McCarthy Award. He is a Fellow of the Association for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence (AAAI), and his honours also include the Sloan Research Fellowship, the NSF CAREER Award, a Fulbright Scholarship, and the IBM Faculty Award. In addition to his academic contributions, Domingos co-founded the International Machine Learning Society and has held key editorial and leadership roles in the AI community. He served on the editorial board of the Machine Learning Journal, was associate editor of JAIR, and co-chaired the KDD-2003 and SRL-2009 conferences. He has been an active member of numerous program committees, including AAAI, ICML, IJCAI, KDD, NeurIPS, SIGMOD, UAI, and WWW.

Domingos earned his undergraduate degree in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from the Instituto Superior Técnico (Technical Superior Institute) in Lisbon in 1988 and completed his PhD in Information and Computer Science at the University of California, Irvine in 1997.
