Patrick Mouratoglou

With more than two decades at the top of tennis, Patrick Mouratoglou is widely regarded as one of the most accomplished and respected tennis coaches of the 21st century. His coaching career includes 10 Grand Slam titles, 4 Coach of the Year awards, 33 singles titles, and 2 Olympic medals.

Born in France in June 1970 to a family of Greek heritage, Patrick Mouratoglou discovered tennis at the age of six and never looked back. At 26, he launched his coaching career and founded the Mouratoglou Tennis Academy, iinitially in Paris and later in the South of France. It quickly became Europe’s leading tennis academy, serving as a premier training base for top ATP and WTA athletes.

Mouratoglou’s first major coaching breakthrough came in 1999 with the mentorship of Marcos Baghdatis. Under Mouratoglou’s guidance, Baghdatis became Junior World No. 1, won the Australian Open Boys’ Singles in 2003, and rose into the ATP Top 10. Between 2007 and 2011, Mouratoglou played a key role in shaping the careers of several WTA players including Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, Aravane Rezaï, Yanina Wickmayer, Laura Robson and Jérémy Chardy. In 2012, Mouratoglou began coaching Serena Williams at a pivotal point in her career. Together, they achieved extraordinary success: 10 Grand Slam titles, a gold medal at the 2012 London Olympics, 3 WTA Tour Championships, and a historic 23rd Grand Slam title at the 2017 Australian Open, surpassing Steffi Graf.

Mouratoglou’s eye for talent and long-term development is evident in his early support of players like Stefanos Tsitsipas, whom he discovered on YouTube in 2015. Tsitsipas became the youngest player in history to defeat Djokovic, Federer, and Nadal by 2019. That same year, a 10-year-old Coco Gauff travelled outside the US for the first time to train at his academy. Gauff went on to become the youngest player to qualify for the Wimbledon main draw, reached a career-high singles ranking of World No. 11 in 2022, and achieved the World No. 1 ranking in women’s doubles. In 2022, Mouratoglou took on coaching former World No. 1 Simona Halep, helping her return to the WTA Top 10 after a difficult injury period in 2021.

Beyond coaching, Mouratoglou has expanded the Mouratoglou brand globally. He launched world-class tennis centers in Dubai (Jumeirah, 2020), Greece (Costa Navarino, 2021), and Malaysia (Epsom International School, 2022), extending his mission to make tennis more accessible worldwide.

Mouratoglou is also a renowned television analyst and commentator, contributing to ESPN, Fox Asia, and Eurosport International. His self-hosted show airs in over 50 countries. In 2020, he appeared in Netflix’s The Playbook: A Coach’s Rules for Life, which profiled legendary coaches sharing their philosophies and life lessons.

Patrick Mouratoglou’s legacy is defined not only by the elite players he has coached but also by his enduring vision: to innovate, inspire, and democratise tennis for the next generation.
