Patrick McKeown is an internationally acclaimed breathing expert, TEDx speaker, and author.
Taking a scientific and data-driven approach to breathing, McKeown is a fellow of the Royal Society of Biology in the UK and the US Academy of Applied Myofunctional Sciences. He has worked with a wide range of clients, including Olympic athletes, military generals, musicians such as Chris Martin of Coldplay, and high-powered corporate executives seeking to improve focus, sleep, and overall well-being.
His book, The Oxygen Advantage, has been translated into 16 languages and sold over half a million copies worldwide. McKeown is also the author of recent publications Atomic Focus and The Breathing Cure.
McKeown’s own interest in breathing began in 2002 as a personal journey to overcome chronic asthma and anxiety. This experience fuelled a desire to understand the science behind breathing and to develop the Oxygen Advantage® method from two decades of research and clinical practice.
Designed to enhance respiratory efficiency, the Oxygen Advantage® techniques focus on improving functional breathing and optimising the balance between oxygen and CO2 in the body. These methods reduce stress, improve sleep quality, increase stamina, and promote faster recovery by improving oxygen utilization and balancing the autonomic nervous system. A key aspect of the training is building CO2 tolerance, which helps improve oxygen delivery to tissues and muscles, leading to better physical and mental performance. These techniques also facilitate flow states—periods of heightened focus and productivity—making them particularly relevant for athletes and knowledge workers seeking sustained peak performance.
With a global network of certified instructors, the Oxygen Advantage® program has been adopted worldwide, empowering a growing community to improve their performance and well-being, and the method continues to evolve with his ongoing research and clinical experience. McKeown travels extensively spreading his message and shares forums regularly with other global thought leaders in the Health and Wellness space such as James Nestor, Mel Robbins and Rangan Chatterjee.
