Lily Liu

With a background spanning private equity, healthcare, and early crypto entrepreneurship, Lily Liu brings a rare, systems-level perspective to how open, internet-native financial networks are built. Her work focuses on scaling blockchain from experimentation to infrastructure, and on what it will take for digital finance to function at global scale.

Lily Liu is President of the Solana Foundation and Co-Founder of Anagram. She helps steward one of the world’s most ambitious experiments in open financial infrastructure. Her authority in the blockchain space is earned through years of building real institutions in complex environments.

Before crypto, Liu was a CFO and senior operating executive across the US, Europe, and Asia. She co-founded Earn.com, an early crypto company that explored how programmable money could reshape incentives online. It was later acquired by Coinbase in 2018. Prior to that, Liu served as CFO of Chinaco Healthcare, where she helped build a 500-bed private hospital in China. That experience grounded her understanding of capital, regulation, and execution in the real economy. Liu’s career also includes time at KKR and McKinsey, advising and investing at scale across borders. Her extensive background helps her understand how systems behave under pressure, how institutions form, and why incentives determine outcomes.

Lily Liu’s first encounter with Bitcoin came in Shanghai in 2013, when she read Satoshi Nakamoto’s white paper which described it as a peer-to-peer electronic cash system native to the internet. That framing continues to guide her work today. At Solana, she has helped articulate and advance a vision of blockchain not merely as an asset class, but as foundational infrastructure for a globally integrated financial internet. It is capable of supporting payments, savings, investment, and entirely new markets at internet scale. Under her leadership, Solana has become one of the fastest-growing blockchain ecosystems in the world, leading in developer growth, application revenue, network usage, and on-chain asset creation.

What distinguishes Liu is her insistence on usefulness over abstraction. She speaks plainly about performance, costs, latency, and adoption as prerequisites for real financial inclusion and global coordination. She is equally attentive to culture and community, arguing that open-source technology without builders is inert. Her work increasingly focuses on asset tokenisation, programmable payments, the convergence of AI and financial networks, and the strategic role of regions that have already demonstrated what digital finance looks like at population scale.
