John Fokker is Vice President of Threat Intelligence Strategy at Trellix where he leads a cross-functional mission to detect, understand, and disrupt cyber adversaries. He previously held roles as Director and Principal Engineer overseeing cyber investigations at Trellix, focusing on collaborative efforts with law enforcement on cybercrime and nation-state investigations. Alongside his team, he delivers intelligence-led outcomes that inform customers, strengthen products, and support global partners. Fokker and his team regularly share actionable intelligence and analysis with international law enforcement and government agencies, including Europol, the FBI and NSA, the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA), Australia’s Cyber Security Centre (ACSC), and the UK’s National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC).

Prior to joining Trellix, Fokker served with the Dutch National High-Tech Crime Unit (NHTCU), the Dutch National Police unit responsible for investigating the most advanced forms of cybercrime. Before his law enforcement career, he spent more than seven years in the Royal Netherlands Marine Corps, including five years with maritime Special Operations Forces, specialising in counterterrorism. He later served as a supervisor within the NHTCU, overseeing numerous large-scale cybercrime investigations and takedowns.

Fokker previously held the role of Head of Cyber Investigations for McAfee Enterprise’s Advanced Threat Research team. He is also a co-founder of the No More Ransom Project – a project focused on reducing the impact of ransomware attacks by providing freely available software that can decrypt files of various ransomware implementations, and a member of the Europol EC3 Advisory Group on Internet Security.

Fokker has a strong foundation in military operations through his service in the Korps Mariniers and holds a Master’s degree in Criminal Investigation, with a specialisation in Digital Investigations, from the Politieacademie Apeldoorn. He also earned a Bachelor’s degree in Information and Communication Technology from the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences.
