Inga Beale

Dame Inga Beale is a senior leader in the global insurance and reinsurance industry and former CEO of Lloyd’s of London, where she served from 2014 to 2018 as the first woman to lead the institution in its 325-year history. As CEO of Lloyd’s, Beale led efforts to modernise the institution, including its digital transformation and infrastructure, while championing greater diversity and inclusion across the insurance sector. She founded the Pride@Lloyd’s network and was named the first openly bisexual person to top the OUTstanding & Financial Times Leading LGBT+ Executive Power List.

Beale began her career as a reinsurance underwriter at Prudential Assurance Company in London, specialising in international treaty reinsurance. She subsequently spent 14 years with General Electric’s insurance division, holding senior management positions in the United States and Europe. In 2006, she became Group CEO of Swiss reinsurer Converium, leading its turnaround, before joining Zurich Insurance Group in 2008 as a member of its Group Management Board and later serving as Global Chief Underwriting Officer. From 2012 to 2013, she was Group CEO of Canopius, a privately held Lloyd’s insurer.

Beale was recognised with a Free Enterprise Award by the Insurance Federation of New York in 2018, with a Barclay’s Lifetime Achievement Award in 2017 and as the Insurance Executive of the Year by St Joseph’s University, Philadelphia in 2015, and was appointed Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire (DBE) in the 2017 New Year Honours for services to the UK economy. She has served as President of the British Swiss Chamber of Commerce since 2022 and has chaired the HIV Commission. She also founded the Insurance Supper Club, an initiative supporting and empowering women in the insurance industry. In December 2024, she joined the Board of the International Panel on the Information Environment.

She currently serves as Chair of the Board of South Pole and as a Non-Executive Director of NN Group N.V., Crawford & Company, and Willis Towers Watson plc. She is a Chartered Insurer and studied economics and accounting at Newbury College in Berkshire, England.
