Guanchun Wang

Wang Guanchun is the Chairman and CEO of Laiye, one of the world’s leading intelligent automation platforms helping enterprises build AI-powered digital workforces. A Princeton-trained engineer with a PhD in Information Science and a former Baidu executive, he has spent over a decade at the forefront of applied AI — long before generative AI entered the mainstream conversation.

When Wang founded Laiye in 2015, his conviction was ahead of its time. He believed that AI agents are not just software tools, but the primary drivers of enterprise productivity. That thesis has since become one of the defining narratives of the current AI wave. Today, Laiye is a globally recognised platform and counts AstraZeneca, Lenovo and China Mobile among its clients. It has also raised over $200 million from investors including Sequoia, Lightspeed and Ping An.

Wang’s vision is bold and specific. He predicts that Fortune 500 companies will soon employ more digital workers than human ones, and that 90% of knowledge work will be executed autonomously by AI agents. Far from framing this as displacement, he sees it as liberation. It frees people from repetitive, mechanical tasks to focus on judgement, creativity and leadership.

This perspective extends to how Wang thinks about management itself. Speaking at the World Economic Forum’s Summer Davos, he argued that the defining metric for future leaders won’t be how many people they manage but how many digital workers they can direct effectively. “Very soon, the valuation metric for a good manager will be: how many digital workers can you manage?”
