David Roche

David Roche is Strategist at Quantum Strategy, a Singapore-based think tank and investment advisory firm. Before founding Quantum Strategy, he led strategy teams at J.P. Morgan, Morgan Stanley, and Independent Strategy.

Widely recognised for his original and often provocative insights, Roche was among the first in the 1970s to move away from traditional country-based investment strategy and instead focus on long-term thematic analysis driven by conviction and fundamentals.

Over the decades, he has correctly anticipated several of the world’s major market turning points – including the collapse of the Soviet Bloc and fall of the Berlin Wall, the 1994 bond market reversal, the 1997 Asian financial crisis, and, more recently, the invasion of Ukraine and the emergence of “gray zone” warfare between democracies and autocracies. His influential essay Pricing Power to the People also foreshadowed the Great Moderation and global disinflation.

Roche frequently appears on CNBC and NDTV Profit, and also hosts The Micro Podcast on Macro Matters, where he explores the latest news on shaping global markets. He has co-authored several books with Bob McKee and Nick Kennedy since 2007, written in an accessible “economic short story” style that explains complex crises in clear terms. His recent work, Consequences examines the rise of populism and autarchy.

Roche holds an MA from Trinity College Dublin and an MBA with highest distinction from INSEAD. He is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) and holds a Diploma in Accounting and Finance from the UK’s Association of Certified Accountants.
