David Goyer has built a career exploring the darker, stranger corners of storytelling, where superheroes wrestle with identity, and the supernatural feels deeply human. He first broke through in 1998 with the hit film Blade, starring Wesley Snipes, and has since become known for crafting character-driven narratives that bring emotional depth and scale to genre filmmaking.
Goyer has produced a range of notable projects in film, including The Night House, Antlers, directed by Scott Cooper; and The Tomorrow War, starring Chris Pratt. His company, Phantom Four Films, produced The First Omen, a prequel to the 1976 classic, which was released to critical acclaim in 2024.
Goyer’s longstanding collaboration with Christopher Nolan includes co-writing Batman Begins and contributing to the story of The Dark Knight, which earned them a Writers Guild of America Award nomination for Best Adapted Screenplay. He also worked on The Dark Knight Rises and co-wrote the story for Man of Steel. Additionally, he co-wrote and produced Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, which set a record for the biggest March opening weekend at the global box office. In 2002, Goyer made his feature directorial debut with ZigZag, which he also wrote, based on the novel by Landon Napoleon. His other directing credits include The Invisible and the supernatural thriller The Unborn. He also wrote Blade II, serving as an executive producer, and later directed, wrote, and produced Blade: Trinity, completing the trilogy.
In television, he created, directed, and executive produced Da Vinci’s Demons, and has contributed to series including Constantine, Krypton, and the cult favorite FlashForward. He also co-wrote the pilot and serves as executive producer on The Sandman, based on the work of Neil Gaiman. Goyer serves as Executive Producer and was showrunner for the first two seasons of Foundation, based on Isaac Asimov’s seminal novels. He is also an Executive Producer on Murderbot, adapted from the bestselling books by Martha Wells.
Beyond film and television, Goyer has contributed to the gaming and immersive storytelling space. He developed the story for Call of Duty: Black Ops and its sequels, Call of Duty: Black Ops II and Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War. He also wrote and executive-produced the acclaimed VR series Vader Immortal for Lucasfilm and Oculus.
