David Dredge is the Chief Investment Officer at City Financial Investment Company Pte Ltd. With a long history in Asian financial markets, he first arrived in the region in 1987 with Bank of America. Over the next four and a half years, he held various trading roles across Singapore, Jakarta, Tokyo, Seoul, and Hong Kong during a pivotal period of market development and deregulation.
During this time, David Dredge developed a vision centered on the unique and asymmetric nature of risk in markets hindered by inefficient risk pricing, often due to government involvement. This perspective on risk ultimately led him to Bankers Trust Company, where he played a key role in the development of their Emerging Markets Trading and Sales business. Bankers Trust’s EM business was built around this vision of complex, interconnected risks and became a leader in multi-asset (equity, credit, FX, rates) risk management, while also driving significant innovations in new products and markets.
Following the 1999 merger with Deutsche Bank, Dredge took a brief hiatus before returning to Asia in 2005 to establish an Emerging Markets (EM) business for ABN Amro. Once again, applying the principles of positively convex risk management to a portfolio of asymmetric, interconnected risks, Dredge played a key role in building a highly successful business in Asia and across other EM regions. He continued in his role with RBS after their merger in 2008 before stepping away from the banking side of the business.
David Dredge graduated from University of Utah with a degree in Finance, and completed an MBA at the University of California, Berkeley. He remains actively engaged in market development, currently serving as a main committee member of the Singapore Foreign Exchange Markets Committee (SFEMC). He has previously held roles as the Vice Chairman of the Main Committee and Chair of the Market Development Sub-Committee.
