Clive Woodward was a key member of England’s 1980 Grand Slam-winning team. He toured with the British and Irish Lions and in four seasons of international rugby, won 21 England caps and scored four tries. Woodward’s ascent to prominence began when he transitioned from player to coach. His keen tactical insights and innovative approach quickly garnered attention within the rugby community. In 1997, Woodward was appointed head coach of the England national rugby union team.

Rise to Prominence

Under Woodward’s leadership, the England rugby team achieved unprecedented success on the international stage. He moved the team from 6th in the world to the number one ranked team and guided England to victory in the 2003 Rugby World Cup. This historic achievement solidified his legacy as one of the greatest rugby coaches of all time. In 2006, Clive Woodward joined the British Olympic Association as Team GB’s Director of Sport. In that role, he supported national coaches and atheletes at the Beijing and Vancouver Olympics. He also delivered Team GB’s most successful Olympic Games at London 2012. Woodward is currently the Director of Sport for the Apex2100 International Ski Academy where he helps young and aspiring athletes achieve their goals in Alpine Skiing.
