Claire Chiang is a distinguished entrepreneur and social activist. As the co-founder and Senior Vice President of Banyan Tree Holdings, she has consistently fused profit with purpose in a way that few business leaders have managed to achieve.
Long before “sustainability” became a buzzword, Claire Chiang embedded environmental and social responsibility into the DNA of Banyan Tree. The Group’s guiding mantra, “Embracing the Environment, Empowering People,” reflects her belief that businesses must uplift the ecosystems and communities it touches.
Through the Banyan Tree Global Foundation, Chiang has championed initiatives that align with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals. She prioritises hiring, community development, cultural preservation, and wildlife conservation, embedding long-term impact into the company’s operations.
Claire Chiang has been a Nominated Member of Parliament, Singapore’s Woman of the Year (1998), and is currently a member of the National Arts Council, Chair of the Singapore Book Council, and Trustee of the Wildlife Reserves Singapore Conservation Fund. Her advocacy spans a broad range of issues from gender equality and family protection to animal conservation and cross-cultural education.
As an author, Claire Chiang co-wrote the acclaimed book Stepping Out, which earned a National Council Book Award and inspired a successful television drama. A highly respected voice in business and social sectors, Chiang is committed to nurturing empathy, embracing diversity, and building bridges across borders and beliefs.
Now based in Phuket, Claire Chiang continues to shape future generations through projects like Step-Up International Laguna Kindergarten (SILK), which fosters holistic and inclusive education for young children. A longtime Rotarian, she is a charter member of the Rotary Club of Suntec City and a champion of the organisation’s humanitarian ideals.
