Audrey van der Meer is a Dutch-born Norwegian neuroscientist and Professor of Neuropsychology in the Department of Psychology at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU). She holds an MSc in Human Movement Sciences (Psychology and Philosophy) from the Free University of Amsterdam (1988) and a PhD in Experimental Psychology from the University of Edinburgh (1992).
Her teaching spans Biological and Developmental Psychology at all academic levels, with a primary emphasis on the Master’s programme in Psychology. She supervises numerous Master’s and doctoral students, focusing on ecological neuroscience approaches to understanding human brain function.
Together with her husband, Professor of Cognitive Psychology Ruud van der Weel, she co-directs the Developmental Neuroscience Laboratory at NTNU Trondheim. Their research investigates human development across the lifespan. By examining the fundamental principles that drive learning, development, and cognitive aging, their work aims to support more effective learning and to help prevent developmental challenges, particularly in infants and toddlers aged 0-3 years, whose rapidly developing brains exhibit remarkable plasticity and learning potential.
Van der Meer is also a member of the Royal Norwegian Society of Sciences and Letters, Norway’s oldest scientific and scholarly institution.
