Arvea Marieni

Arvea Marieni specialises in EU-China environmental cooperation, green technology and the industrial impact of decarbonisation. She has advised governments, international institutions and businesses on energy transition, circular economy and new business models. Her work includes REGEN3TIQ, a digital-twin technology that won the 2023 European Innovation Procurement Award for the green energy transition.

The green transition is no longer a simple environmental agenda. For Arvea Marieni, it is becoming the organising force behind a new industrial economy, reshaping technology, trade, investment and geopolitical influence.

A European Commission climate and innovation expert, Marieni specialises in EU-China environmental cooperation and the industrial consequences of decarbonisation. She is Director of Ecological Transition Solutions at French engineering company BEAM CUBE.

China sits at the centre of much of her thinking. Marieni first travelled there in the 1990s and has followed its transformation into a major force in green technology. She argues that Europe’s relationship with China cannot be reduced to competition. Chinese manufacturing scale has helped lower the cost of renewable technologies and accelerate electric mobility. For European companies, the challenge is to learn from that progress while retaining the industrial capability to compete.

At BEAM CUBE, Arvea Marieni develops ecological-transition solutions, including REGEN3TIQ, a digital-twin technology that won the 2023 European Innovation Procurement Award for the green energy transition. She also serves as an evaluator and jury member for European innovation programmes.

Marieni advises businesses and public institutions on environmental technologies, energy transition and new business models. She looks beyond individual technologies to the systems that determine whether they succeed. She argues that regulation, procurement, finance, technical standards and international cooperation can determine whether innovation reaches society at scale. She sees public procurement, in particular, as an underused lever for the green and digital transitions.

She is equally interested in the human side of change. Arvea Marieni argues that climate policy often focuses on sacrifice and disruption without showing people what they might gain from a different economic model. That perspective informs her work as a European Climate Pact Ambassador. For Marieni, developing greener technologies is only part of the challenge. The bigger task is creating the conditions in which people, companies and governments can see a future in them.
