Albert Park

Albert Park is Chief Economist and spokesperson for economic issues at the Asian Development Bank (ADB), where he leads the Economic Research and Regional Cooperation Department (ERCD), overseeing major publications including the Asian Development Outlook, Asian Economic Integration Report, Asia Bond Monitor, and Key Indicators for Asia and the Pacific.

A development economist with more than two decades of experience, Park is a leading expert on the economy of the People’s Republic of China and has directed numerous large-scale research projects in the country. His research spans poverty and inequality, intergenerational mobility, migration and labour markets, microfinance, foreign investment, and the future of work. His analysis and commentary have been featured by leading international media, including The Economist, The New York Times, The Washington Post, The Wall Street Journal, BBC, CNBC, Bloomberg, NPR, and Freakonomics.

Park is Chair Professor of Economics on leave at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST), where he previously served as Director of the Center for Economic Policy and founding Director of the Institute for Emerging Market Studies. He has also held academic positions at the University of Oxford and the University of Michigan, and served on the editorial boards of leading economics journals.

Park holds a bachelor’s degree in economics from Harvard University and a doctorate in applied economics from Stanford University.
